Why does remembering where we come from matter? Because our roots shape who we are and help us appreciate everything we’ve established along the way.
At Tequila Jalisco’s, our belief that customers are family comes from that same feeling of community, strength, and fortitude. And while we love sharing authentic Mexican food, there’s so much more to the story behind the flavors we serve starting in Jalisco, Mexico.
Join our team at Tequila Jalisco’s as we explore our roots and discover the music, traditions, landscapes, and history that make this region so special.
The Birthplace of Music, Spirits, and Sport
Jalisco is widely recognized as the home of mariachi music, one of Mexico’s most recognized cultural traditions. Its sound developed from a blend of influences. European instruments, Indigenous musical traditions, and African rhythms came together to shape the lively regional music known as son jalisciense.
And then there’s tequila.
The spirit gets its name from the town of Tequila in Jalisco, where people have cultivated blue agave for generations. The region’s volcanic landscape and distinctive red, iron-rich soils provide the environment where blue agave thrives.
If you have ever attended an American rodeo, you’ll have a pretty good idea of charrería, a sport that originated in Jalisco, Mexico. The idea began among fellow ranchers as playful competitions between friends that turned into skill demonstrations of horseback riding, roping, and cattle handling. With enough popularity, they eventually evolved into organized festive showcasing.
A Land of Incredible Diversity
Jalisco isn’t just culturally rich; it’s geographically diverse, too.
The state features an impressive range of landscapes, including:
- Flat plains and prairie lands
- Lush tropical and evergreen forests
- Dry forests and mangrove areas
- Semi-arid landscapes
This variety creates habitats for an incredible range of wildlife, including hundreds of bird and mammal species. From mountains and forests to ranches and agave fields, Jalisco’s landscape has played an important role in forming its people’s culture and traditions.
